Tuesday, May 13th is an important day for Colchester. Annually, town residents have the opportunity to vote on the direction taken by the Town and Board of Education. This is the day!
I urge all of you to take the time to let your thoughts be known -- each and every vote is important. Is this a perfect budget? Depending on your perspective, it may or may not be. But, it is a reasonable, prudent, and responsible budget taking into consideration both the economic times and the needs of our residents. Does it address our needs for the future? No. However, like you, we are working with diminishing resources and ever increasing costs. Like you, we are working hard to meet today’s needs, while exploring ways to meet our long-term needs. And, like you, we are working on a bare bones budget.
Last week I wrote about democracy and the power of the vote. This is the one day, other than Election Day, that you have an individual impact on what happens locally with a simple vote. It takes only minutes to vote. Stop on your way to work, picking up the kids, the grocery store, or the game. All voting will take place in Town Hall and the polls are open from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
